Sensei Oscar has lived in Ottawa since 1988. He holds a diploma in law and security among other certificates he achieved at Algonquin College. During his time at Algonquin, Oscar was extremely successful in self-defense and grappling portion of the program. Oscar is no stranger to teaching small or large groups as he became a junior instructor in the Cadet system at the age of fifteen teaching basic military knowledge and survival skills. At the age of nineteen he became a Reserve Officer where he continued to train and teach the art of survival and physical fitness.
Oscar has always been a believer of a healthy body leads to a healthy mind.
Sensei Oscar became passionate about karate when he saw his son – now also a junior black belt – at Brown’s martial arts dawn his Karate Gi for the first time at the age of 4. Sensei Oscar began his journey to black belt with the guidance of Sensei Geoff and is now a strong believer that it’s never too late to start something new. On October of 2009, he began as a white belt. Later on June 2013, Sensei Oscar achieved the 1st degree black belt alongside with his 9 year old son – Sensei Michael.
When Sensei Oscar is not doing Karate or working on his own business in the renovations field, he is playing hockey as a goalie for two leagues year-round. He surely has a busy schedule…but he is proud of it!
