Since the age of 4, Saul has had a passion for karate. He admired the strength, agility and the confidence of a martial artist. In the beginning, he was very shy and needed a little bit of incentive to start taking karate. So he convinced his dad, now Sensei Geoff, to join with him.

He became passionate very quickly and before he knew it, he was spending 5 day per week at karate! Having a sister that was already a black belt, and a dad in the adult program, Saul never passed up on an opportunity to hangout, watch the higher belt classes, practice and learn.

At green belt, he was invited into the BBM program, which allowed him to take part in the bo classes. As soon as Saul received that letter he instantly accepted and began bo classes and loved it! He would not let go of the bo. He would practice anywhere he could to keep up his skills with this weapon. So needless to say… he was very passionate about the weapon and stuck with it to become a weapons instructor.

In the fall of 2003, Saul Brown became a Sensei as he had completed his Brown Belt and became a junior black belt. This gave him the incentive to further his karate career and become a second degree junior black belt! Saul continued his studies in the martial arts and in the summer of 2010, at the age of 16 he received his adult Second degree black belt. It was at this point that Sensei Saul realized that he wanted to do this for the rest of his life!

He Currently holds the rank of Third Degree (San Dan) which he achieved in June of 2013.

At the orange belt level, Saul went to his very first tournament in Malone, New York. He did very well, placing 1st in both Kata and Sparring. Around 8 years later, with hundreds of tournaments under his belt, he found himself trying out for team Canada to represent at the world level. He lucked out in the sense that the world’s happened to be in Niagara Falls that year so he could stay in Canada. He did very well overall in his Kata and Weapons divisions and felt good about this. He still competes to this day and hopes to one day compete at the world level again.

In December of 2012, Sensei Saul took a business venture with his father Sensei Geoff and opened Brown’s Martial Arts.

Saul’s other passions include Rugby, Football and playing music.
